Hello Everyone,
I’ve been wanting to make cinnamon rolls for a while now and I finally worked up the courage to try it! I used the ‘Easy Sourdough Discard Cinnamon Rolls {30 minute recipe!}’ from the Hopewell Heights website. I will attach the link to my Links & Supplies page.
First things first, let’s gather our ingredients!
Dough:
- 2 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tablespoon Sugar
- 4 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 3/4 cup Butter, cubed, or grated
- 1 cup Sourdough Starter
- 1 Egg
- 1/2 cup Milk
Cinnamon Sugar Filling:
- 1/4 cup Melted Butter
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 tablespoon Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 4 oz softened Cream Cheese
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1/4 cup Whole Milk
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
Supplies:
- Large Bowl
- Small Bowl
- Rolling Pin
- 9×13 inch Baking Dish
- Stand Mixer (Optional)
Y’all!!!!! I finally have a stand mixer!!!! My in-laws got me a Hamilton Beach Electric Stand Mixer for Christmas!! I absolutely love it! I will add the link to my Links & Supplies page! Fernandough was a happy and bubbly starter this morning!

First we’re going to add our flour, salt, sugar and baking powder to a bowl and mix it together. If you have a stand mixer, use your whisk attachment. Add in your cubed butter and whisk until blended. Lastly, you need to mix in your sourdough starter, egg, and milk until you have a shaggy dough.

Make sure you give yourself enough counter space to work with your dough. Pour out your dough onto a lightly floured surface. Then, fold the dough into itself until all the flour has been incorporated and you can still see bits of butter. Roll out your dough with a rolling pin until you have a 6 by 9 rectangle.

This next part is going to sound weird. You need to fold your dough back together and roll it out again. Per the recipe, this needs to be repeated one more time in order for the dough to have lots of flaky layers. Make sure you put down more flour if needed and roll your dough out to be an 18 by 12 inch rectangle.
Now comes the fun part! Mix your filling together in a small bowl and use a spatula to spread the filling out evenly onto your dough. Roll the long end of your dough toward you. I used a bench scraper to help keep my dough from falling apart. Cut your dough evenly into 1 inch rolls. You should have a total of 12 cinnamon rolls or if you made your dough a little longer you might end up with a few more like I did.

I roped my husband into icing the cinnamon rolls! We were excited to try them out and they were good. However, I would add a lot more cinnamon to them next time. The icing came out perfect but the rolls didn’t have enough flavor in my opinion.

If you try this recipe out and add more cinnamon, I would love to hear how they turned out! I think a fruit filling would taste great with this recipe. Please see my Links & Supplies page for the full recipe I followed and check out the Hamilton Beach Stand Mixer I have! Stay tuned to see what I make next!
Sincerely,
Tiara
