Hello Everyone! I decided to learn how to make breadsticks because I eat a lot of pasta and they make the perfect combination! The recipe I used is called ‘Same Day Sourdough Breadsticks’ and it can be found at countryroadssourdough.com. I will be adding the link to these yummy breadsticks to my Links & Supplies page. Here are the ingredients you will need:
Dough:
- 160 grams (2/3 cup + 1 tbsp.) Water
- 175 grams (3/4 cup) Active Sourdough Starter
- 10 grams (1 tbsp.) Salt
- 350 grams (2 1/2 cups) Bread Flour
- 15 grams (1 tbsp.) Sugar or Honey
- 57 grams (4 tbsps.) Softened Butter
Topping:
- 14 grams (1 tbsp.) Butter
- 1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp. Italian Seasoning
Let’s get started! First, mix your dough ingredients together (excluding your butter). If you are using a stand mixer, use your dough hook attachment and mix for 5 minutes. Now add your softened butter and knead your dough for 10 to 15 minutes. Your dough is going to feel very sticky, but do not add anymore flour.

Cover your dough and let it rise until it has doubled in size. I use the Esembly Bowl Caps to cover my bowl and it alway works great for me. If you are interested in purchasing some of these covers, the link is on my Links & Supplies page.

The recipe I followed recommended letting your dough set for 3-4 hours at 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I was very excited to use my bread heating box I recently bought off of Amazon. It plugs into the wall and has a controller so I can set the temperature and the hours it needs to be at that temperature. I highly recommend getting one of these if your house runs on the cold side. A warmer house equals a better rise for your dough, but this bread heating box gives you the best of both worlds. I will add a shortcut to my Links & Supplies page below for you to check it out!

When your dough is done with its first rise, make sure to punch the dough to let out all the air bubbles. Dump your dough out on to a lightly floured surface and use a bench scraper to divide the dough into 12 parts. I only divided mine into 6 parts, but you can do what you feel is right for your dough. Once you have your portions separated out, roll them out to about 7-8 inches long. Cover your bread sticks with saran or cling wrap and let them rise for 2-3 more hours.

I also covered mine with a towel to help keep some heat in and help with the rising process.

Once your dough has dough the final rise, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 20-22 minutes or until golden brown. In a small bowl, mix your topping ingredients together and brush onto the tops of your breadsticks. Serve fresh with your favorite pasta dish!

I’m warning y’all…these breadsticks are addictive! They turned out very good and I will be making them again! The only thing I didn’t like was how flat mine turned out. If you get yours to puff out more then please let me know your secret! Stay tuned for more yummy recipes like this.
Sincerely,
Tiara
